ABOUT CHICORY SPRINGS FARM
![]()
A big Howdy from Jean and Dave to all of you who are visiting!
Chicory Springs Farm got its name shortly after Jean moved here, as the beautiful chicory flowers opened up everywhere. Although not a desirable plant in some farming circles, the cowboys of old appreciated its roots for use as a coffee substitute. We use regular coffee here, but do enjoy the unique color of the chicory flowers!
As you will notice, many of our web pages are still empty, but we hope you enjoy what’s posted so far, and will return to view our website as it evolves. Our friends in Idaho, the Quilligan’s, are quite adept at putting together a top notch farm site and it would not have happened without their assistance.
Both Dave and Jean are busy with on and off-farm jobs, but since they can’t fend for themselves, our live critters take priority over our other tasks. We have about 60 mouths of assorted size and shape, as well as an extensive garden- all on 20 acres that needs weeding, mowing, watering, fencing, pruning, repairing…you get the idea! And, as a new couple (married in March 2005) we also like to spend a little time together fishing, riding, hunting, and barbecuing (i.e.. not doing chores). Our combined ages total 105 (we’ll let you figure that out), so we often are more optimistic about what we can accomplish than what actually gets done!
Because there are a plethora of websites that can furnish you with answers to the basic questions of animal health and husbandry, we have chosen to skip those details here. You can find referrals to some of these topics on the Links page (soon). Also, there are many other websites that have superior photos, text, and records on their herds and flocks. You probably won’t find that here either, but we do the best we can with the time God gives us, and try not to worry much about the small stuff like wrinkles, dust or clutter!
We hope you are enjoying your life as much as we do ours. Feel free to e-mail with any questions, comments or Howdy’s. We respect your time and will answer all mail, but please respect ours and be patient if you don’t hear back within 24 hours.
God Bless!
